 The Canada Virtuoso Ensemble is the premier all-professional classical music ensemble based in Mississauga. Under the artistic direction of Maestro Carlos Bastidas, the ensemble brings together Canada's finest musicians, each with diverse backgrounds and extensive performance experience.
Dedicated to excellence in classical music, the Canada Virtuoso Ensemble presents dynamic and engaging performances that captivate audiences. From timeless masterpieces to innovative contemporary works, the ensemble’s programs highlight the depth and versatility of classical music while fostering a deep connection with the community.

Expanding its global reach, the ensemble is preparing for a 2026 Latin American tour, where it will present a compelling program featuring classical masterworks and Canadian compositions. This unique tour, blending the artistry of a classical strings chamber group with ballet, will bring Mississauga’s classical music scene to the world stage, strengthening the city’s cultural presence on an international level.

Representing a rich mosaic of musical traditions, the ensemble’s members hail from various cultural heritages, bringing influences from European, Latin American, Asian, and North American classical traditions. This fusion of global artistry and expertise creates a dynamic and expressive musical experience, uniting different traditions through the universal language of music.
With a commitment to artistic innovation, collaboration, and musical storytelling, the Canada Virtuoso Ensemble continues to shape the cultural landscape of Mississauga and beyond.

Maestro Carlos Bastidas

     Maestro Carlos Bastidas is an internationally recognized conductor known for his artistry, innovation, and inspiring leadership. With a career defined by excellence and inclusion, he has become a prominent figure within the global classical music community.
Maestro Bastidas currently serves as Music Director of the Canada Virtuoso Ensemble and the Ontario Pops Orchestra, where his dynamic leadership has transformed these ensembles into some of the most vibrant orchestras in Canada. He also holds the title of Conductor Emeritus of the Durham Chamber Orchestra in recognition of his lasting contributions to its artistic growth.
Maestro Bastidas studied bassoon, composition, conducting, and chamber music at the University of Ottawa, where he developed the multifaceted foundation that has shaped his distinguished career. His talent and passion have earned him international recognition, including guest conducting appearances with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Matanzas in Cuba, as well as guest conducting engagements in Mexico and Egypt.

Beyond the concert stage, Maestro Bastidas has reached global audiences through his popular channel on YouTube, where numerous concert recordings bring the beauty of classical music to listeners around the world. His acclaimed recording Breaking Barriers also reflects his dedication to exploring diverse musical traditions and creating meaningful connections with audiences.
His achievements have been widely recognized. In 2019, he received the Transformation Award for Heritage from the Transformation Institute for his contributions to cultural preservation and innovation. That same year, he was named one of the 10 Most Influential Hispanics in Canada, highlighting his impact as a cultural ambassador and advocate for inclusion.
